The Centenary of Armistice 2018
The Armistice of Compiègne between the Allies and Germany came into effect at 11am on 11 November 1918. Guns fell silent on the Western Front and four years of war and destruction was over.
This year marks the Centenary of Armistice, 100 years on from the end of World War I, where almost 62,000 Australian lives were lost fighting for our freedom and our nation.
To commemorate the Centenary, Twin Towns’ ‘100 years, 100 faces’ light show will honour the spirit of those who served, or currently serve, in Australia’s Defence Forces, in any capacity.
Everyone is invited to submit a photograph of a family member, friend or themselves. The photos will be collated into a presentation, which will appear on rotation nightly from 4-11 November, sunset until midnight, on the giant 17m x 5m screen on the exterior of Twin Towns.
Photos must be of the service or ex-service person in uniform. To ensure safety of all original photographs is maintained, photos must be submitted in electronic format, (i.e. scanned or photographed at high res on your phone), then emailed to centenary@twintowns.com.au
If you are not sure how to do this, enlist the assistance and support of a younger family member who will know exactly what to do to get the photo to Twin Towns. Enquiries can also be sent to the email address above.
Images will ideally be at least 1MB (1,000 KB), up to a maximum 9MB. When submitting, please provide your best contact phone number and some background information on your photo, including the name of the person, date of birth, and where they served or are serving.
If they are deceased, please provide this date if known. If more information is needed, we will contact you via email.
The presentation will be capped at 100 photos so get your photos in as soon as possible. Images will be chosen for their quality and suitability for reproduction on the big screen. Those that submit images that will be screened will be advised by email that their submission was successful.
Help make this a spectacular community event and recognise and pay tribute to the contribution of your family member or loved one for their service to our country.
Photos can be submitted from Monday 3 September until Friday 19 October, or when 100 suitable photographs have been received, whichever is sooner. Get your photos in as soon as you can.
