To commemorate the Centenary of Armistice, Twin Towns’ ‘100 years, 100 faces’ light show will honour the spirit of those who served, or currently serve, in Australia’s Defence Forces or served with one of our Allied Forces, in any capacity.

Everyone is invited to submit a photograph of a family member, friend or themselves. The photos will appear on rotation nightly from 4-11 November on the 17m x 5m screen on the exterior of Twin Towns.

Photos must be of the service or ex-service person in uniform, preferably at least 1MB or more.

Photos must be submitted electronically (i.e. scanned or photographed at high res on your phone), then emailed to 100faces@twintowns.com.au

If you are not sure how to do this, enlist the assistance and support of a younger family member.

Please provide your contact details and some background information on your photo, including the name of the person, date of birth, and where they served or are serving. If they are deceased, please provide this date if known.

The presentation will be capped at 100 suitable photos. Photos must be submitted by Friday 19 October.

Twin Towns Centenary Commemoration

Twin Towns will commemorate the Centenary of the Armistice with a major event in Chris Cunningham Park on Sunday 11 November, from 10.30am to 12 noon NSW (9.30am to 11am Qld).

A brief re-enactment of the end of hostilities on the Western Front and commencement of the Armistice is planned, followed by a service, community gathering and march.

A private luncheon for Sub-Branch members and guests will be held in the Twin Towns Showroom from 11am Qld to 1pm Qld.

From 1pm Qld, the Showroom will open to the public for a concert featuring the Queensland Services Heritage Band.

The history of this band dates back to the early ‘50s when the Australian Army Reserve formed three bands to provide musical support for ceremonies relating to the first royal visit of the newly crowned Queen Elizabeth II.

The band will perform music from the war eras.

CELEBRATING LOVED ONES

Amongst the photos submitted last month was the one above from Christine Evans of Tugun.

The photo is of Christine’s father, Flight Sgt Lloyd Evans, who fought in the Australian Air Force in Papua New Guinea during WWII.

Lloyd (1922 – 1987) was in Number 2 Squadron Darwin. This family shot, taken in March 1944, is Lloyd, his niece Biddy Corrigan and cousin Ted Dunn who was on leave at the time.
