Banora Point High School has kicked off the 2026 school year with a major boost for students, teachers and parents, unveiling a new 25-seater bus thanks to a $140,000 donation from Twinnies Gives.
The new bus will provide easy access to excursions, sports, cultural events and community activities for students, including those in the school’s Support Unit.
The funding was made available through Twinnies Gives, which encompasses Twin Towns Services Community Foundation and donations made directly by the Twin Towns Group, including ClubGrants.
Chair of the Twin Towns Services Community Foundation Ken Culpitt said one of their objectives is the advancement of education and development of young people.
“The Foundation has a long relationship and proud history of ‘giving’ to Banora Point High School and its students. This bus is just the next chapter,” said Ken.
“Over the past few years, we partnered with the school on many projects.
“Twin Towns helped build an inclusive, productive and income-generating garden for students with special needs, we funded IT projects for students and also provided a suite of iPads for the special ed unit,” said Ken.
Bridie Beard from the Special Education Unit said the bus has already proved a game changer!
“Twin Towns’ generosity in providing the bus has opened so many avenues for our students.
“Students now participate in weekly swimming lessons and because of the cost involved in hiring a bus, this just wouldn’t have happened if it wasn’t for Twin Towns,” Bridie said.
Bridie said she hopes members know this is more than just a monetary donation for the school.
“What this bus has done is provide the opportunity for confidence, independence and really authentic life skills for many students,” she said.
Bridie said the donation was another example of Twin Towns’ long-term commitment to making a lasting difference.
“Their generosity continues – it’s not just this bus, we truly value the relationship with Twin Towns,” she said.
